TYRE MECHANICS

Tyre being a complex and difficult structure involving all kinds of materials (Rubber, Nylon and Steel), it is challenging to understand the mechanics of tyre due to its nonlinear behavior.

Research in this centre is mainly of two types.

Basic Research

1. Understanding the basic physics involved in the tyre mechanics. (Using Continuum Mechanics, Composite Mechanics, Heat Transfer etc.)

2. Establishment of new analysis procedures and improving the existing procedures.

3. Formulation of different failure criterion for rubber materials. (Fracture Mechanics, Failure Theories, etc).

Applied Research

Understanding on field failures and new developmental requirements of JK tyres Ltd. and addressing these issues and requirements through Finite Element Analysis and Analytical Methods and making necessary changes in the design.

For this, the centre is equipped with highly sophisticated high-end workstations and all commercial FEA softwares (ABAQUS, Nastran, LS Dyna etc)
